Two new assured skills academies are each offering 20 high-quality training places for people with an ambition to future proof their skill set.

The PwC Academy, in conjunction with the Department for the Economy, will see participants receive nine weeks of industry-relevant pre-employment training in data analytics at Belfast Met.

Successful participants who complete the Academy will gain industry recognised qualifications and be guaranteed a job interview with the company.

Speaking about the opportunities available Deputy Secretary at the Department for the Economy, Heather Cousins said: “This is an excellent opportunity for people with a degree to gain the skills they need to compete for jobs in the growing professional services industry where data skills are critical to many roles.”

PwC’s Head of Capability and Development in its Operate division, Claire McNally added: “We are very keen to bring on board graduates from a range of backgrounds and disciplines. No experience in data analytics is required in order to apply – the Assured Skills Academy provides extensive and high quality training through Belfast Met and puts participants on a very strong footing to compete for a job with PwC.”

Academy participants will receive training in a range of data analytics techniques, including data architecture modelling, excel, SQL, Introduction to python, Human Skills and Introduction to power bi.

Meanwhile, the Department for the Economy and Northern Regional College (NRC) are offering places for people to train as logistics and transport coordinators. Participants in this Assured Skills Academy will receive six weeks of industry-relevant pre-employment training at NRC’s Newtownabbey Campus leading to an industry recognised qualification. Successfully completing the course also guarantees a job interview.

Graeme Wilkinson, Director of Skills at the Department for the Economy, said: “This Assured Skills Academy at NRC is a great opportunity for anyone seeking a new career in logistics and transport. The course will equip participants with the necessary skills to compete for a role in a local company with immediate vacancies.”

Applicants for this Assured Skills Academy must be 18 years old by February 24th 2020 and hold at least one A level at grade A-C, or equivalent qualification. No experience in the field of logistics or transport coordination is necessary.

As well as industry-relevant training, participants of both academies will receive a training allowance of £150 per week, travel expenses and may also be eligible for childcare allowance.
