Top chef honoured by peers at hospitality awards gala evening

29th May 2019

Northern Ireland chef Michael Deane has been honoured with an ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award at a recent hospitality event.

The Michelin starred chef who operates six restaurants in Belfast, including Meatlocker and Deanes Eipic, took the title at the 24th Institute of Hospitality NI Awards at Titanic Belfast.

He said being recognised by his peers made the award “extra special” and added: “It’s a very exciting time for the hospitality industry here with the wide-spread acknowledgement of the part we all play in attracting tourists to our province.

“For me, having been through very different times in Belfast, it’s clear we’re only beginning to show what we can really offer to our customers both from here and abroad.”

Marianne Hood of the Institute of Hospitality NI said Mr Deane was a unanimous winner: “His business has won 18 Michelin stars in total, holding the star consecutively for 14 years which is the longest time for any restaurant in Ireland.

“Michael is a fine example of someone who truly embodies the spirit of our mantra ‘to promote hospitality professionalism through lifelong learning”, she added.
