WYG expanding skilled workforce

7th December 2015

PROJECT management and technical consultancy firm WYG is expanding its workforce in Northern Ireland. The global company employs over 1,500 people, operating from more than 50 locations across the UK, Europe, Africa. The Northern Ireland office, open since 1998, employs 110 staff including designers, project managers, quantity surveyors, engineers, town planners, environmental specialist and business service professionals. As a result of a number of high profile, award winning schemes, WYG is now on the lookout for skilled and talented people across a broad range of specialisms, on both a temporary and permanent basis. Current and past WYG Northern Ireland projects include:

HEALTH
The team has extensive healthcare experience, having been employed by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust to provide quantity surveying, and mechanical and electrical engineering services for the Royal Victoria Hospital. The company is also currently working on two large projects: a Regional Maternity Hospital and a Regional Children’s Hospital.

EDUCATION
WYG has also secured a range of projects in the education sector, working on key projects such as the development of the new Southern Regional College campuses, providing a full suite of multi-disciplinary services.

LEISURE
The Bangor Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex is an example of the WYG team’s success in the leisure sector. Its civil and structural engineers were appointed to work on this £34m facility, which has, among other awards, won in the Regional Group Category at the Structural Awards 2014 and was named Best Large Project by the Institution of Structural Engineers (NI region). The team is now working on a new leisure facility at Dairy Hall, Newtownards for the Ards & North Down Borough Council.

ENVIRONMENT
WYG has demonstrated its technical strength in the water and wastewater sectors, managing Northern Ireland Water’s Integrated Wastewater Framework for the Eastern Region for over eight years.

LOCAL INVESTMENT
From the Belfast office, the business provides services all over Northern Ireland and beyond. For example, its engineers are involved in a project at the School of Biological Sciences at University of Edinburgh and work in support of WYG’s international projects, with members of staff on assignments around the world. With the devolution of powers and the 12% increase in infrastructure investment for Northern Ireland announced by the Chancellor George Osborne in the latest Spending Review, the company is poised to benefit from this growth in the region. Michael Scott, head of management services for Northern Ireland and Belfast office director, said: “These are exciting times for us. The expansion of the team testifies to our growth and success in Northern Ireland with high profile projects that really make a positive impact on local communities. But, most importantly, we endeavour to make WYG a great place to work by nurturing talent and ensuring that the individuals who join us thrive in their personal lives and careers.”
