Supporting new legal talent more crucial than ever

2nd December 2020

Supporting new legal talent is more important than ever amidst the current economic climate and employment market.

That was the message from Conor Wylie, the Director of Belfast based law firm, Millar McCall Wylie.

At a time when many legal firms have cut back on recruitment, Millar McCall Wylie has appointed two recently qualified solicitors, with Hayley Cummings joining its Corporate Law team and Ross White becoming part of its Private Client department.

The firm has also recruited two new trainees, Paul Delahunt within the Family and Matrimonial department and Matthew Kernohan in Litigation. It continues its development of two further trainees for their second year of training, Niamh McMonagle (Employment law) and Ross Carrigan (Residential Conveyancing).

“Encouraging and supporting people coming into the legal sector has always been important to our firm,” comments Conor Wylie.

“However, the uncertainty of 2020 has made us even more committed to making sure we offer opportunities for career development. Indeed, for us, supporting new talent is more crucial than ever. We don’t want to see the enthusiasm and focus demonstrated by so many who have chosen law as their intended career path go to waste. Now is a time for us to harness that ambition and invest in the future not only of our firm but of the careers of tomorrow’s leading lawyers.”

Speaking about her recent appointment with the firm, solicitor Hayley Cummings said: “I graduated from Queens University Belfast two years ago, then trained with Millar McCall Wylie and, having recently qualified, am delighted to have been appointed permanently within the firm’s Corporate law team. I’ve been learning every single day and am now starting a career with the firm having built a solid foundation with the people and clients within it. It is encouraging to see further trainees joining, particularly in 2020 when a lot of people are facing uncertainty.”
