NI’s Leading Jobsite Goes Mobile

17th September 2013

NORTHERN Ireland’s job-seekers now have a dedicated new mobile website to help them find recruitment posts while they’re on the move.

The nijobfinder website has extended its repertoire by optimising its website for mobile devices.

The www.nijobfinder.co.uk site is now the only job portal in Northern Ireland to offer jobs via print, online, iphone app and a site specialising in mobile phones and tablets.

Thanks to the smart phone mobile site it is now easier than ever to search and apply for jobs whether at home or on the move.

Digital commercial director Patrick Beatty said: “When we looked at our other classified sites we realised that over 35% of our traffic was coming through mobile facilities. So developing a mobile site for nijobfinder just made sense. It was about optimising the website so it performs better within the context it is being used – whether that is on a desktop computer or a smart phone.

“It also helps us stay ahead of the competition. We are able to offer advertisers a print presence, a web presence, an iphone app and now a mobile site presence.”

The mobile site, owned by Independent News and Media, is ideal for commuters who can take advantage of the growth of free wi-fi and sophisticated mobile broadband services like 3G.

“We wanted people to be able to use the site easily, regardless of the medium they are using,” said Patrick.

“ Basically we are encouraging people to use their ‘membership’ of the site to its full advantage when they are at a computer and then to treat the mobile site as an extension of the website rather than a replacement.

“For our clients and job advertisers it is an addition to their current portfolio.”

Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Clover Watts-Kerr, human resources officer for Schrader, the leading global manufacturer of sensing and valve solutions, said: “As a business we welcome any medium that helps people have easy access to job vacancies. It gives greater access to potential candidates and that can only be a positive thing.

“It doesn’t matter where you go — look around and all you see is people on their phones. It is a sign of the times we live in. Busy people use their phones as a means of staying up to date and connected when they are on the go. For that reason I think the nijobfinder mobile site is an excellent idea.”
