Naomi’s hard work adds up with top exam result

17th September 2013
A student from the University of Ulster is marking her mark on a global stage thanks to success in an international accountancy exam.
Naomi Mitchell, a post graduate accounting student at the Ulster Business School, came first in Ireland and fourth in the world in the Association of Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) Advanced Taxation exam.
Even more impressive is her success in the ACCA’s Advanced Audit and Assurance exam where Naomi out-performed 19,500 candidates across the globe coming fourteenth in the world and second in Ireland. As a result of her achievement Naomi has been named top ACCA affiliate in Ireland.
Ronnie Patton, Course Director, Ulster Business Schoo, said:, “Whilst a primary degree in accountancy opens the door to the world of work, ongoing study for professional examinations really propels a graduate up the career ladder.
“ACCA is the global body for professional accountants and achieving membership can act as a passport to a successful career in accountancy, business and finance.”
“As an Ulster Business School accountancy graduate Naomi was required to sit only five of the 14 ACCA exams which she has done in record time and to a remarkable standard.”
“Now employed by Maneely McCann, Naomi’s success is a further demonstration of how the Ulster Business School is skilling up graduates with appropriate qualifications to enable them to play an important role in the development of Northern Ireland’s future economic growth.
Paul McCann, partner in Maneely McCann, added: “Maneely McCann only recruit ACCA trainees and we have worked hand-in-hand with the organisation for over 10 years.”
“We support trainees as they work towards the ACCA qualification and that combined with the theoretical and practical teaching delivered at the Ulster Business School provides accountancy candidates who are exceptionally well prepared and capable of servicing a broad spectrum of clients. Naomi is a terrific role model for aspiring accountants and has already become a valuable member of our team.”

The Ulster Business School provides a range of full-time and part-time academic and professional  accountancy courses for both under-graduates and graduates.  The school’s BSc in accounting gains significant exemptions from parts of the professional exams of the major accounting bodies, including the maximum allowed for ACCA membership.
