Jobs boost as Lisburn secures training centre

17th September 2013

A new state of the art training centre is set to boost job opportunities and career development in Northern Ireland’s security industry.

Tavcom Training and Technical Consultancy, the UK’s leading security systems training company, has joined forces with Northern Ireland’s biggest independently owned security service provider Mercury Security Management Ltd to launch the technical training facility in Lisburn.

The new centre is being designed to mirror Tavcom’s workshops and lecture rooms at its own premises in the UK and will eventually deliver Tavcom’s full range of security systems courses.

For Tavcom’s managing director Mike Tennent, this pioneering joint venture is the realisation of a long held ambition.

“Over the past 18 years, Tavcom has forged strong links with a wide range of organizations, both public and private, throughout Northern and Southern Ireland and every year we welcome large numbers of Irish delegates to our Training Centre in Bishop’s Waltham,” he said.

“It has always been my wish to help them minimize the time and cost of travel by establishing world class training facilities on their side of the Irish Sea.  Therefore I am delighted to have been able to bring this about by forming a very constructive partnership with Mercury Security – a company that shares our vision and our values.”

Francis William Cullen, director of Mercury Security Management Ltd, believes that the new centre would boost job opportunities across the province.

“We are delighted that Tavcom has chosen Mercury Security as the location to open their first technical training and consultancy division in Ireland,” he said.

“This is great news for the installation community and those who require technical training who in the past have had to travel to Tavcom headquarters in England.

“Now that our existing clients and future clients have got this excellent facility right on their doorstep, we will be providing many opportunities for job creation in all sectors of the security industry. For example our youth can now choose a career in the installation industry and not incur the costs of travelling abroad to get the required training and qualifications.”
