IT’s All Happening in NI

17th September 2013

Historically, Northern Ireland had been an industrial economy focusing on areas such as shipbuilding and textiles. However the economy is evolving and emphasis is now on growing and developing sectors such as IT, financial services, legal services, renewables and tourism.
In IT, Northern Ireland has a growing number of software development centres, shared service centres and IT technical support centres, across an array of business sectors. There are more than 100 international organisations with large IT functions in the region for example: Navinet, Kana, Aepona, Allen and Overy, NYSE, Fidessa, Fujitsu, All State, Liberty, Oracle, CyperSource, CME Group and Citi Group. Only 15 years ago, this list may have seemed farfetched.
First Derivatives PLC, Kainos and Omnisoft are but a few examples of high growth Northern Ireland companies and surely there will be many more to follow in the next few years with the growing number of NI tech startups such as JamPot, Sophia Search and Repknight.
It is an exciting time in the Northern Ireland IT sector, in addition to a number of start-ups; Invest Northern Ireland is promoting Northern Ireland as an important hub for technology and financial services companies with considerable success. Technology firms are praising the skills available here and at Lucas Love Recruitment we are encouraging IT professionals across the Island of Ireland and abroad to join the expanding list of NI tech firms and benefit from the vast pool of opportunities available here.
Today Lucas Love IT launch a new initiative to acknowledge and reward Northern Ireland’s IT professionals ‘IT’s All Happening – Award for outstanding contribution to the I.T sector’. The award is aimed at recognising an individual among the NI IT community that has demonstrated excellence in their profession during the past 12 months, and seeks to reward individuals at all levels of an organisation who have contributed to the development and deployment of innovative IT systems that improve business operations or enhance public services.
Entries are welcomed from any individual working in the public, private or voluntary sector who is involved in the management of or provision of IT services within Northern Ireland. You can nominate yourself or a colleague.
The winner will be officially recognised for the work that they have done over the last year and the positive impact they have made within the IT Industry in Northern Ireland. They will receive £250 to spend on Amazon, an award and positive publicity for themselves and their organisation.
The award will be judged by industry experts including: independent professionals and members of the business community & media:  Damien Dougan, NaviNet, Inc, Kevin Johnston, Head of eBusiness and Nibusinessinfo, Invest NI, Emma Leahy, Web Content Executive, SyncNI, and Bronagh Donnelly, IT Recruitment Consultant, Lucas Love Recruitment.
Speaking at the awards launch, Bronagh Donnelly, IT Recruitment Consultant, Lucas Love Recruitment said, “We are working with a vast number of IT professionals from across Europe on a daily basis. We felt launching the award would be the ideal way to highlight and reward the innovative people driving our IT sector.
