Future business leaders log on for new course

17th September 2013

Future business leaders will soon be using the latest technologies to help progress up the corporate ladder with a new online course aimed at giving them the skills to take on a managerial role within their organisation.

The new innovative online Foundation Degree in Leadership and Management has been launched at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) and is aimed at those in work who want to progress to management positions but prefer the flexibility of online learning.

Students will access the course through a new custom built learning portal, giving access to both course materials and. Students will also be required to attend one day master classes organised throughout the year to reinforce the learning material.

The course is unique as it gives students the ability to simultaneously complete a Charted Management Institute (CMI) Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management.

Jeni McConnell, from SERC explained:”Feedback from our adult learners, was that they were finding it increasingly difficult to manage their busy work and personal lives and still find time to develop themselves for future career opportunities. This is why we have developed this course in partnership with CMI, in order to allow those in work to get the qualifications and skills they need to progress.”

Following the successful completion of the two year course students may choose to undertake further part-time study at the University of Ulster to complete a full BA Hons Degree in Business Studies with Leadership and Management.

Employers, who offer their employees the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in this way, will obtain a CMI Award in Coaching and Mentoring.  This recognition will show the employer’s commitment to their staff and the investment in professional development.

Those interested in enrolling on the course, starting in January 2013 can complete an application form or contact Nicola Johnson (nicolajohnston@serc.ac.uk) for further details.
