Forensics agency seeks chief with £80k salary

21st May 2019

A senior role at the Department of Justice has gone on the jobs market with a salary of up to £80,000.

The new Chief Executive Officer at Forensic Science NI (FSNI), which is currently occupied by Stan Brown, will be based in Carrickfergus.

Forensic Science Northern Ireland (FSNI) is an agency within the Department of Justice, responsible for the provision of impartial scientific advice and support, to enhance the Criminal Justice System.

The successful candidate will play a “fundamental role in maintaining and enhancing the reputation of the agency.”

FSNI’s prime role is to provide objective, independent scientific advice to support the courts. Its services are also available to those representing both defence and prosecution interests in criminal cases.

FSNI’s principal paying customer is the Police Service of Northern Ireland for whom it provides a service of forensic advice and scientific expertise.

Approximately 90% of the work submitted to the agency originates from the PSNI.

Services are also available to a variety of customers representing both defence and prosecution interests in criminal cases.

The organisation currently employs around 200 staff, all civil servants, of whom roughly 65% are scientists directly involved with casework.

In other areas of the Civil Service, the Department of Finance, Construction and Procurement Delivery is seeking a Senior Construction Project Manager. The post-holder will receive a salary of up to £40,473.

And in the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, a post for an Economist has become available. The successful applicant will be based in Stormont Estate and receive a salary of up to £31,760.

The Executive Office is seeking a number of Lay Members for the Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission (NIJAC).

The independent public body was established in 2005 to bring about a new system for appointing members of the judiciary in Northern Ireland.

Meanwhile, in education a number of schools are seeking teaching staff for the new term in September.

They include four posts at Belfast High School covering Religious Education, Geography, English and Technology. New-Bridge Integrated College in Banbridge has three posts available and Foyle College is seeking a girls’ PE teacher on a full-time permanent basis and an English teacher on a job share basis.
