Engineering firm shifts up a gear with 20 new posts

A FIRM in Omagh which makes engine monitoring systems is creating over 20 new high-quality jobs after bucking the global economic trend.

Family-run JMG Systems, which already employs just over 70 people, supplies the quarrying, recycling, crushing, aircraft ground support, construction and automotive sectors.

The new jobs will contribute £380,000 a year in salaries to the economy in what has historically been an unemployment blackspot.

The firm was established in 1976 and has customers across Europe and North America as well as supporting other global regions.

JMG Systems has supplied products to many of the world’s leading manufacturers and the investment in new jobs is part of the company’s growth plan which will also see it move to a new production facility next year.

Invest NI has offered £80,000 of support for the new jobs under its Jobs Fund scheme, which aims to stimulate job creation in the face of a global economic downturn.

Joseph McGoldrick, managing director of JMG Systems Ltd, said that despite difficult times, the firm is busier than ever.

“The support from Invest NI is allowing us to recruit immediately so that we are in a position to respond to an upturn in demand for our products, which we are anticipating,” he said.

Welcoming the jobs announcement, Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster said that the firm has diversified and invested smartly in a bid to beat the downturn.

“These new jobs will be a mix of engineering, production operatives and administrative support and offer high-quality employment opportunities in an area that has been significantly affected by the global downturn,” she said.

“When in place they will contribute some £380,000 a year to the economy.

“JMG has proactively responded to the downturn by investing in product development to diversify and target new markets.

“The additional staff will be required to help the company grow in export markets, provide additional customer support and increase the technical capability of the company to drive research and development.”
