EMPLOYMENT BRIEFS
A GLOBAL talent survey has revealed that 80% of employees plan to stay with their current employer in the next year – a significant increase from 2011 when nearly 65% were planning to leave.
However, the Talent 2020 survey from Deloitte warns that out of a false sense of security, companies may neglect their talent and retention strategies as more employees appear to be staying put.
Glenn Roberts, senior partner at Deloitte Belfast, said: “Instead of addressing broad concerns over high turnover rates, employers now face a more targeted challenge.”
“Companies must adjust their talent management initiatives to focus on retaining employees with the critical skills required to advance their business in today’s turbulent marketplace, as they pose the biggest flight risk.”
“Retaining key employees is not simply a human resources function.
Strong leadership is one of the most important factors in differentiating between an employee who is committed to their current job and one who is constantly searching for the next career opportunity.”
THE Department of Employment and Careers Resource Centre in Belfast is extending its opening hours to include Thursday evenings.
The Ann Street office will remain open until 8.30pm and appointments will not be necessary.
The Careers Service provides free careers information, advice and guidance to clients of all ages and abilities, whether employed or unemployed.
In July, the Minister launched a pilot scheme at the Careers Resource Centre to provide an additional “drop in” service between 10am and 2pm each Saturday.
This was to enable those currently in work to avail of careers services outside their normal working hours.
The pilot will initially operate until January 2013, following which an evaluation will be carried out to determine the scheme’s longer term future.
