Backpack with Ikea

9th October 2013

IKEA Belfast’s James McLaughlin will say ‘bonjour’ to Paris, thanks to IKEA’s Backpacker Scheme — an initiative designed to give international experience to promising workers.

James, who is currently working in the store’s logistics department, will join the team at IKEA Velizy in Paris, and he will be specifically tasked with creating a selfserve area for the store.

He will also be working in the logistics division, preparing the Paris store for a new bathroom department.

James, who joined IKEA in 2007, said he’s looking forward to a new challenge: “I am very excited about going to Paris and am looking forward to my specific assignments which will have a big impact on the store as well as strengthening my own experience.”

Human Resources manager at IKEA Belfast Bob Van Geldere said the Backpacker Scheme is a highly effective development programme.

“The IKEA Backpacker programme has been designed to help grow knowledge and experience for its workers and give employees a new perspective of how IKEA works on an international level.

“Four workers from the Belfast store have been accepted for the scheme and I have no doubt that this time in Paris will be an invaluable experience for James,” he added.
