The Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) project is a pilot project that is the first of its kind in Northern Ireland, and seeks to find ways to address fuel poverty and begin the transition away from fossil fuel use.

We are now seeking a Sustainable Energy Communities Project Co-ordinator to join us on a full-time basis, for a two-year fixed-term contract. This role is funded by the National Lottery.

The Role

As a Sustainable Energy Communities Project Co-ordinator, you will play a key role in the SEC project, supporting the four pilot communities in their transition away from fossil fuel use.

Specifically, you will assist with the development of pilot communities’ Energy Master Plans (EMPs). You will develop Community Charters, communicate the project implementation plan, and develop a publicity and communications plan, as well as building strong relationships with the communities through a variety of meetings.

You will also ensure the pilot communities have access to appropriate support and services such as training, awareness-raising, energy-auditing, debt and welfare advice, and the analysis of renewable energy options.

Additionally, you will:

- Maintain an understanding of the challenges and solutions in the energy sector
- Assist in writing up the EMPs
- Record and report project progress and risks

About You

To be considered as a Sustainable Energy Communities Project Co-ordinator, you will need:

- Experience of working on community development and/or community energy projects, or energy, energy efficiency, or retrofitting projects


Knowledge of fuel poverty and/or climate change and the just transition towards net zero would be beneficial to your application. A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field would also be advantageous, as would a professional qualification in energy auditing and/or community development.

Other organisations may call this role Net Zero Project Assistant, Sustainability Project Officer, Project Officer, Energy Projects Co-ordinator, or Energy Programme Co-ordinator.
