Grounds Person

Salary: £24,050 pro rata

Location: Newtownabbey/Jordanstown

Job Type: Full-time (6 months)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Grounds Person to join a leading organisation in Jordanstown. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for horticulture and grounds maintenance, looking to take the next step in their career.

Day to Day of the role:

• General maintenance of gardens, grounds, sports fields, all-weather pitches, and other external areas.
• Carry out a given programme of works with minimal supervision.
• Comply with all health and safety regulations.
• Communicate and liaise with other trades, line management, and department staff.
• Provide assistance to other trades staff as necessary.
• Maintain records including timesheets, job records, machinery checks, chemical records, and Permits to Work.
• Undertake training as necessary and carry out emergency repairs as directed.
• Operate and maintain a variety of horticultural machinery and equipment with competence.
• Drive and operate business vehicles as required and utilise computer technology in support of work.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1 year’s experience in grounds and gardens maintenance, primarily in a non-domestic role.
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
• Experience with horticultural machinery and identification of trees, shrubs, and bedding plants.
• Experience in driving and operating a tractor and various implements.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Good understanding of health and safety issues in the horticulture sector.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Full current driving licence and willingness to travel between sites and work out of normal hours.
• Desirable: Formal horticultural qualifications, Lantra tractor operation certificate, PA1 and PA6a chemical application certificate, NPTC Level 2 in Chainsaw maintenance, and experience in nursery work.
