Orchard Residential Care provides services to support young people who are unable to live with their own families and who are referred to our service by TUSLA. Working with families and the community, we provide young people with a safe space to grow and develop, exploring and supporting them with past trauma, building on their resilience, and developing life skills.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Psychologist to join our team on a part time permanent basis (24 hours per week). Although this role is based in Sligo, you will cover the geographic area of Sligo/Leitrim/Roscommon/Cavan, with potential for other locations as we grow.

Purpose of the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a psychology service as part of a dedicated and innovative team within our Residential Services, in line with service plans and objectives and within established professional standards, guidelines and policies, including HIQA/TUSLA regulations & standards.

Duties and Responsibilities of the successful candidate:

Professional

  • Be responsible for the delivery of a young person-centred professional psychology service appropriate to the post, in line with best practice and standards, guidelines and policies.
  • Work within the limits of their professional competence, in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governance.
  • Provide psychological assessments of young residents, based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of data from a variety of sources, including psychological tests, self-report measures, observation and interviews with family members and / or carers.
  • Where psychological assessments are undertaken by psychologists external to Orchard Residential Care (e.g. NEPS, or private consultancies), the Orchard Residential Care psychologist will facilitate the effective interpretation and integration of results and recommendations to the young person’s Care Team.
  • Exercise professional responsibility for the treatment and discharge of young persons, using appropriate, evidence-based psychological interventions.
  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with Care team members and others to ensure integrated service provision.
  • Be aware of and where appropriate, recommend referral of a young person to external services.
  • Contribute to and participate in inter-agency work practices and service delivery as required.
  • Initiate and participate in needs assessment and health promotion as appropriate.
  • Provide professional reports as required in accordance with professional standards.
  • Foster an understanding of the role and contribution of psychology by providing professional consultation, education, guidance, and support to others, as appropriate.
  • Attend meetings, committees and / or conferences as required.
  • Work in an ethical and professional manner at all times.
  • Promote a culture that values equality, diversity, and respect in the workplace.

Education, Research and Training

  • Utilise evidence-based literature and research to support effective practice.
  • Undertake appropriate research and provide research advice as appropriate.
  • Participate in continuous professional development initiatives and ensure compliance with statutory registration requirements.
  • Keep informed of advances in professional knowledge and practice.
  • Provide evidence-based learning opportunities for Orchard teams.
  • Attend mandatory training programmes.
  • Attend training courses as informed by service requirements and career and personal development planning.
  • Engage in and utilise clinical supervision effectively.

Quality and Risk

  • Comply with and contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and safe professional practice, adhering to relevant legislation, regulations, and standards.
  • Maintain professional standards regarding service user and data confidentiality.
  • Actively participate in and initiate continuous improvements of the psychological services.

Other

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of information sharing protocols, audit systems, referral pathways and integrated care arrangements.
  • Keep up to date with organisational developments within the Irish Health Service.
  • Ensure that all files are in line and ready for a HIQA Inspection at any given time.

Essential Requirements:

The successful Candidate must have the following:

1. Have a university honours degree (QQI Level 8/QCF Level 6) obtained with 1st or 2nd class honours, in which Psychology was taken as a major subject.

2. Have an Irish post-graduate professional Psychology qualification, accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland in Clinical, Counselling or Educational Psychology

OR,

an equivalent post-graduate professional Psychology qualification from another jurisdiction, approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

3. Qualified applicants must demonstrate that they have acquired experience in appropriate health care settings, in working with children and adolescents with complex needs. This must be a minimum of either:

  • at least 60 days, or equivalent, supervised clinical placements as part of the professional qualification.
  • or at least 60 days post-qualification supervised work experience as a Psychologist.

Other requirements specific to the post:

Candidates must hold a full clean driver’s licence as the post may involve travel between services. Candidates will be requested to provide copies of their driver’s licence should they be successful at interview.
