Hays are working in partnership with a Northern Ireland Civil and Structural Engineering consultancy who are recruiting for a Chartered Structural Engineer to be based in Belfast.

Your new role
The Chartered Structural Engineer will be responsible for coordinating the structural design of building structures from inception to the completion of construction. The successful candidate will play a key part to our client’s organisational success, ensuring commitments to the customers are delivered on time and to the highest standard.
Main Responsibilities of a Chartered Structural Engineer:
• Design of structures in reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber, and masonry.
• Conceptual design, involving choice of appropriate materials and method of analysis.
• Supervision and management of a team of engineers and technicians in detailed design, to set time budgets.
• Preparation of project specifications, involving use of both standard specifications prepared by external agencies and in-house specifications.
• Attendance at design team meetings, site meetings and client consultations.
• Organising Site Investigations by trial pit and borehole
• Inspection and reporting on structural defects in buildings.
• Operation of procedures in accordance with the firm\'s quality system.
• Prepare the designer\'s input to the Health & Safety plan for projects and issue to the Planning Supervisor.


What you\'ll need to succeed

The following are the required skills/ experienced and educational background to be sucessful for the Chartered Engineer role:

  • Chartered Structural Engineer with membership in either the Institution of Civil Engineers or the Institution of Structural Engineers, preferably both.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-graduation experience, including 3 years of design office experience in building structures and site experience as Resident Engineer or with a contractor.
  • Knowledge of the JCT Form of contract and Quality Assurance systems and quality management is essential, along with experience of working in multi-disciplinary design teams and implementing Safety Plans in accordance with CDM Regulations.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite - Excel and Word
  • Have an awareness of recent developments in engineering design and research.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to use initiative in problem-solving are a must.
