FIRE PRECAUTIONS OFFICER

CPL have partnered with Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS- TEO) to recruit for a Fire Precautions Officer (E01 Grade) to join their team on a temporary contract, with possibility of extension.

·      Pay Rate - £15.21 per/hr

·      Location – The Executive Office, Corporate Services Division, Office Services

·      Benefits – 37 days holiday per annum

·      Hours – 37 hours per week

Responsibilities will include: 

·      TEO is committed to providing a ‘competent person’ service in respect of fire safety. The Fire Precautions Officer (FPO) is responsible for ensuring that the fire precautions procedures for Stormont Castle are kept up to date. 

·      He/she must personally check that the fire-fighting equipment is in position in accordance with the record kept in Fire Equipment Schedule of the Fire Safety Manual.

·      To ensure that a test of the fire alarm system is carried out each Monday morning at 10am and recorded in Fire Safety Manual. Any faults identified reported through Office Services.

·      To ensure that up to date Fire Action cards are on all notice boards and that special Duty Action cards are displayed in the appropriate areas.

·      Arrange for up-to-date records to be kept of the fire wardens and the assistants for the disabled. It is mandatory for all staff to be trained as Fire Wardens (FW). FPO will email volunteer FWs daily to identify cover and where there is not enough to cover floors the FPO will visit each floor and nominate an individual.

·      To arrange for training for fire wardens and assistants for the disabled.

·      In the event of a fire ascertain from the automatic fire alarm panel the location, nature, and extent of the fire, and that the Fire Brigade has been called.

·      To ascertain the whereabouts of anyone left in the building from Fire Wardens and those assisting the disabled.

·      To liaise with the Fire Brigade on arrival and give all relevant information.

·      Notify DoF Fire Safety Unit of any fires that occur in the building.

·      Carry out reviews of equipment, procedures and readiness as directed by line management.

·      Carry out other duties as directed by line management.

Essential Experience/Qualifications

·      Applicant to provide evidence he/she has been responsible for establishing fire safety requirements / providing specialist advice on fire safety and not just acting on the fire safety requirements established by others.

Desired Experience/Qualifications

·      NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management.

Relevant or Equivalent Qualifications

Applications will also be considered from applicants with relevant formal qualifications considered to be of an equivalent or higher standard to those stated.

Relevant or equivalent qualifications: give the type of qualification and date awarded (the date awarded is the date on which you were notified of your result by the official awarding body). If you believe your qualification is equivalent to the one required, the onus is on you to provide the panel with details of modules studied etc so that a well-informed decision can be made.
