Nowadays teenagers have so many educational choices to make, and with so much information available it can become hard to make the right decisions. Between picking school subjects, university and college choices and potential job paths, the process can become overwhelming.
So, how can we guide the next generation? How can we help them make good choices and inspire their future careers? How can we give them a taste of different careers and what working life might look like?
The answer is simple – Skills NI Exhibition.
Skills NI is an interactive and innovative two-day careers, jobs, skills and apprenticeship event for 14-19 year old students, their teachers and their influencers. It is Northern Ireland’s biggest careers fair and aims to enlighten students about their potential career routes, include information on training courses, apprenticeships, further and higher education, as well as jobs with study options.
Gabrielle McEvans, Project Manager of Skills NI explains: “Skills NI is designed to give students a taste of what life is like working in a broad range of roles and environments, from electrical engineering, to banking, construction, manufacturing, bioscience laboratories, accountancy, the media, insurance the agri-food industry, to name just a few.”
Headline sponsors of the event include NIE Networks, NI Water, Barclays and the Department for the Economy. Gordon Parkes, HR Director of NIE Networks highlights the value of events like Skills NI and comments: “It is extremely important to our society and our economy that young people possess the skills required by employers. The ‘skills mismatch’ needs to be addressed collectively through an integrated approach led by employers and supported by local government, schools, colleges and universities.
