Core Systems is Breaking the Glass Ceiling in the Technology Market

A locally-owned software development company which specialises in solutions for those in the criminal justice system, Core Systems (NI) Limited is bucking the trend in the IT industry. Considered a male-dominated sector, Core Systems’ not only has a female CEO, Patricia O’Hagan MBE, but it has female employees in each sector of the business – Business Development, Marketing, HR, Product Management, Software Engineering and Quality Assurance.

Furthermore, the company, which is based in Belfast but has customers in 3 continents, boasts an even 50/50 split of males to females in its workplace of 26 employees, and it is a trend that the CEO is very proud of.

“Our team at Core is a group of highly motivated, talented and diverse individuals,” Patricia commented, “and the fact that we have an even gender balance proves that you can break the glass ceiling in the software and technology market. This is what sets Core apart and makes us unique, and we would love to hear from individuals who wish to join our inimitable team.”

Women are under-represented in the tech industry with a recent survey by the Chartered Institute of IT and Tech Partnership reporting that of the 1.18 million IT specialists in the UK, only 17 percent of those were women. Huge swathes are the population remain uninspired to enter the IT industry but it seems that Core Systems has found the right formula when attracting new recruits.

Patricia added, “At Core Systems we nurture and grow the skills of our employees and we are a very diverse group of people. We have people from different backgrounds, from different countries and from different educational pathways. Each member of our team is an individual and isn’t another face in the crowd – we all play an active role in producing life-changing solutions for people in the prison and probation systems all around the world. That is what makes us the experts in our sector.” In addition, Core prides itself on the benefits it offers to its employees, especially working parents, with its flexible working hours’ policies and flexible annual leave allowance, plus a healthcare scheme which extends to family members.
