Lucas Love Healthcare becomes first nursing agency to pledge living wage of £7.45

17th September 2013

Healthcare Agency Lucas Love today promised to pay a National Living Wage to all current and new Care Assistants registered with the agency.  Sinead Polland is the first Nursing/Care Agency Director in Northern Ireland to guarantee Care Assistants the £7.45 an hour rate.
The decision to increase the current hourly rate for all Care Assistants comes following the recent research from KPMG that one in five workers in the UK are paid less than the living wage. The living wage is measured according to what workers need to afford a basic standard of living.
Lucas Love Healthcare is Northern Ireland’s fastest growing, registered Nursing and Domiciliary Agency. The company provides both permanent and temporary staff to over 20 healthcare groups across the province.  Renowned for their exceptional support and guidance to staff, there isn’t a better time to work for the organisation.
Mrs Polland said “Our Care Assistants work extremely hard. Working as a Care Assistant is a very physical and emotional job, with great benefits. We felt that our staff needed recognition for the wonderful work they carry out for some of Northern Ireland’s most vulnerable people.  This increase will result in our agency Care Assistants increasingly their monthly wage substantially and we hope this will assist in increasing their standard of living.  The pay increase will come into effect on Tuesday 1st January 2013, giving extra income for the New Year”.
“At Lucas Love Healthcare we pride ourselves on the support, training and development we offer all our Healthcare professionals. Our staff, are in at ground level and can be working 40-hour weeks for us, it’s only fair they receive a reasonable wage to reflect this” continued Sinead.
Healthcare is a rapidly growing market and offers: excellent job security; diversity within the role; fast track to promotion; excellent rates of pay and flexible working. It must be highlighted that the Private Healthcare sector is not just about care of the elderly, positions are also available across a number of other healthcare sectors for example: learning disabilities and mental health.
