How To Be An… Estate Agent

17th September 2013

ALTHOUGH the market may be slow at the minute people will always need homes so if you have a passion for property and want a career that is as challenging as it is rewarding then a career as an estate agent could be for you.

Aaron Russell, director of Cucou Estate Agents, explains how he embarked on a career as an estate agent:

“I studied Estate Management at a university in Edinburgh as I had always had an interest in property and sales.

“My parents were both involved in the car sales industry, so I knew from an early age sales was the career path I wanted to take. I was always fascinated with property and at the time when I had to make my further educational choices, the Northern Ireland property market seemed buoyant.

“Once I returned from studying Estate Management in Edinburgh I wanted to gain knowledge and experience in Northern Ireland’s property market. I have worked for some of the country’s leading estate agents for the past 10 years, dealing with all types and values of residential property allowing me to develop a profound understanding of today’s housing market.

“I have recently opened my own estate agency firm called Cucou. I wanted to build a fresh, innovative brand which uses all the latest technology in order to achieve a service and sales performance of the highest level possible.

“Individuals who want to get into the estate agency business need to have good people skills, a thick skin, enthusiasm and some common sense! They should have a strong interest in the current housing market and should gain as much experience as they can. It is important to concentrate on what vendors and potential buyers actually need and value. Understanding your customers’ needs and requirements is crucial.”

Cucou is located on Belfast’s Belmont Road, for more information visit www.cucou.co.uk.
