The Welcome Organisation

The Welcome Organisation is a Belfast based charity which helps homeless and vulnerable people to find decent homes, build supportive relationships and lead fulfilling lives.   Our main goal is to reach out to the homeless and vulnerable, and to offer a place of acceptance, tolerance and understanding.

The Welcome Organisation aims to narrow the divide between people with homes and people without them and to stabilise lives. Our services assist individuals to move off the street or on from homelessness with the ultimate goal being long term accommodation and a home they can call their own. 

We deliver day and night street outreach services, a drop-in support centre and crisis accommodation for vulnerable women. We operate from 8am to 1am - 365 days a year. In 2012 we assisted 60 women through our female crisis accommodation, 940 individual people through our drop-in centre, and 829 individuals through our outreach service.

Services are based on a low threshold, high tolerance model based on the principles of harm reduction. The Organisation is known for working with some of the cities most marginalised people leading very chaotic lifestyles. Many of our clients present with alcohol or substance dependency issues couples with poor mental health. As are result of a complex range of influencers some display very challenging behaviours. Our belief is that those displaying these characteristics are those who often need our interventions the most.

Our aim is always to find a way to engage and support people, irrespective of their life history and current behaviours.

The Organisation is led by a professional Board which brings expertise and experience from a broad range of disciplines. The 27 staff team is headed up by the Director of Homelessness Services – to whom the successful candidate will report to. The Homeless Support Manager will be responsible for the day to day running of frontline services – supported by 3 assistant managers and a highly proficient team of support workers.
