McCalls of Lisburn was established in 1956 and has grown to become one of the UK's premier independent fashion retailers. We operate from 2 stores in the centre of Lisburn. We sell men’s fashions including suits, casual clothes and shoes. We hire formal and wedding suits and sell children’s clothing and school uniform. Our mission statement “Stylish Wear - People Who Care ” succinctly captures the importance we place on great products and great people.

The Retail Sales & Customer Service Assistant will be responsible for maximising sales and delivering outstanding customer service. Reporting to the Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Outstanding Customer Service and Sales
  • Product knowledge, display and management
  • Processing payments on EPOS till
  • Excellent Teamwork


Roles and Responsibilities:

Customer Service – Customer satisfaction is paramount to our business so a very high level of customer service is required, from greeting shoppers as they come in, helping them with enquiries or issues, and making sure they are happy as they leave. This applies whether the customer is in store, online or on the phone.

Selling – Offering advice, recommendations and alternatives to customers, encouraging customers to browse, and offering information on all aspects of store products.

Product and Stock – Making sure stock is replenished, displays are attractive, the store is tidy and presentable. Product knowledge is developed. Using stock control system.

Cash handling - Processing payments, whilst delivering excellent customer service, to ensure customer satisfaction.

Online customers - Assisting with website order fulfilment and related queries and the online booking system.

Teamwork – Being an effective and efficient team player; supporting colleagues.

The Person:

Essential Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Have a bright, friendly, outgoing personality
  • Have the drive and enthusiasm to maximise sales and deliver outstanding customer service
  • Be highly motivated and proactive
  • Have a great work ethic to bring to the team
  • Be able to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Be able to resolve customer issues
  • Be flexible in their approach to work
  • Possess the ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Provide regular updates and feedback to management and attend weekly sales meeting
  • Have excellent oral and written communication and IT skills
  • Have good organisational skills
  • Be proficient in maths and English
  • Be prepared to work usual shopping hours which will include Saturdays and some evenings and public holiday dates.

Desirable Criteria

Preference will be given to those candidates who have:

  • Visual merchandising skills

Pay & Conditions of Work

  • 40 hours per week - Monday to Saturday with a day off during the week; some evenings.
  • Annual holidays 28 days pa
  • Salary £21,000 pa pro rata plus sales commission, pension contribution & generous staff discount after 12 months service
