Salary: NJC Points 29-35 (Currently £32,910 - £38,890)
Hours per week: 35.00

We are currently recruiting for a Policy and Public Affairs Officer who will be responsible for developing and managing the Children in Northern Ireland (CINI) policy work to support the achievement of CiNI’s mission and strategic goals.


  • Plan, develop and manage CiNI’s policy work
  • Develop and manage the production of persuasive, evidence based policy positions drawing on evidence for CiNI’s policy function and the views of CINI membership
  • Influence decision makers, policy makers and the general public on issues of concern to children, young people and their families
  • Draft CiNI responses to government consultations
  • Provide briefings and information for key influencers, members and strategic partners
  • Contribute to the production of regular information including newsletters, reports and publications on the findings of research
  • Service strategic groups such as the All Party Group on Children & Young People, Child Poverty Alliance and Children with Disabilities Strategic Alliance
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of CiNI’s strategic and operational plans
  • Where appropriate act as CiNI spokesperson in the media and at public events
  • Develop and manage external contacts and relationships to further CiNI’s policy work
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of key developments on policy and practice on children’s issues
  • Organise public events/seminars/conferences on CiNI’s policy work
  • Work alongside children and young people to influence policy


  • A relevant degree/equivalent qualification or 5 years’ experience of working in the field of policy and legislative commentary and public affairs
  • 3 years’ experience of developing and implementing policy reform and advocacy strategies
  • 3 years’ experience of evidence based legislative and policy commentary
  • 3 years’ experience of successful public affairs engagement and influencing at a high level
