Job Description:

As a Senior Town Planner, you will take a lead role in managing and delivering a diverse range of complex planning projects. You will be responsible for providing expert planning advice, leading projects, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality planning services. It is anticipated that the candidate will manage a portfolio of projects reporting to the Director and senior team and managing junior staff. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage planning projects from inception to completion, co ordinating multidisciplinary teams across projects, and ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery.
  • Provide expert advice on planning policies, regulations, and procedures to clients and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit planning applications, appeals, and supporting documentation.
  • Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and impact analyses.
  • Liaise with local authorities, statutory bodies, and other stakeholders to negotiate and secure planning approvals.
  • Undertake and lead Pre-Application Community Consultation as part of the planning application process.
  • Mentor and support junior planners, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Stay up to date with changes in planning legislation, policy, and best practices to maintain and enhance professional knowledge.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A degree in Town Planning.
  • Full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or the Irish Planning Institute (IPI).
  • A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in a planning consultancy or local planning authority.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex planning applications.
  • Familiarity with the Northern Ireland planning system, with clear evidence of a sound working knowledge of NI, UK or ROI planning jurisdictions, at the level required for this Senior Planner role.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent report writing skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools including Microsoft Office - Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

We are looking for someone who is an excellent communicator, is comfortable presenting and leading meetings, interacting with multidiscipline teams, communicating with clients and who can produce high quality client ready materials, with proven ability to compile, analyse and interpret data and policies. The candidate should have a demonstrable interest and enthusiasm for the planning profession. A full driving licence and access to a car is required.
