Role description

The post holder (Care Assistant) will work as part of a team to provide a safe, effective, efficient care environment for residents, clients / relatives and the care team. They will be responsible for the delivery of essential care as directed by a more senior colleague such as a Senior Care Assistant or Registered Nurse.

The Care Assistant is expected to actively support the existing team and will work flexibly as directed. Care Assistants are expected to work within the policies and processes of the organisation they are working in and these will be adhered to at all times.

The post holder will be required to comply with the Florence Care Support Worker code of conduct at all times, and adhere to the values of the organisation, whilst demonstrating commitment to quality resident / client care through effective team work.

Key areas of responsibility


1. Carries out a full range of Care Assistant duties, including where appropriate, assessment and evaluation of the resident / client condition.

2. Works with direct supervision and is able to escalate concerns as required.

3. Maintains a safe environment when caring for residents / clients, including those requiring frequent levels of monitoring.

4. Documents incidents in accordance with the organisational policy and escalates concerns to the appropriate person and Florence where required.

5. Is able to recognise deterioration in a resident / client condition and alert the appropriate senior colleagues.

6. Maintains accurate, contemporaneous and legible written records of care, where required to do so.

7. Uses effective communication with all levels of staff including the multidisciplinary team, residents/ clients and relatives.

8. Fosters good relationships with members of the organisational team


1. Adheres to the Florence ‘Professional Standards of Dress policy.

2. Communicates effectively with the wider organisational team

3. Provides professional information when escalating concerns.

4. Maintains current practice in association with expected national guidance.

Education and Training

1. Completes all statutory and mandatory training as required for compliance with the Florence Platform.

2. Initiates own development as required.

3. Be prepared to be trained on and use any information technology / medicAl equipment that is used within the organisation.

Health and Safety

The postholder has a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, to:

1. Take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and all other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work

2. Co-operate with their employer to ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and the Health and Safety policies and procedures.

The post holder must at all times respect the confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. This includes, ensuring all information is kept in a safe and confidential manner. The postholder will at all times escalate concerns or breeches in relation to data protection and GDPR.
