New posts created as medical firm unveils £6m extension at factory

17th September 2013

A medical manufacturing firm is set to create 25 new jobs after obtaining planning permission for an extension.

TG Eakin, which employs 60 people in the manufacture of skin protection products, is making a £6m investment which will involve a 5,000 square metre extension to its factory in Comber.

Its planning application was fast-tracked by the Department of the Environment, and permission was granted within five months.

Managing director Jeremy Eakin said: “TG Eakin is both a family-owned and locally-based company and we are pleased that we are able to continue to remain at Ballystockart and bring additional employment to the area with this substantial investment.

“The extension to our premises will enable us to increase our production levels and continue to develop new products in order to maintain and hopefully increase our market share in a very competitive market.”

TG Eakin products are exported to around 30 countries around the world.

DUP Strangford MP Jim Shannon said: “We are pleased to see the continued success of this locally-based manufacturing firm and welcome the news of its forthcoming expansion and the consequent creation of new jobs in the Co Down area.

“TG Eakin is a great example of a Northern Ireland company exporting and excelling on a worldwide level and all efforts should be made to support its continued success.”

Work is set to begin early next year and is expected to be finished early 2013.
