Graduates take Centre Stage

15th June 2015

THE Minister for Employment and Learning, Stephen Farry took to the stage recently to congratulate Performing Arts students from South Eastern Regional College (SERC).

The students from the college’s student theatre company The Glass Umbrella were performing excerpts from Little Shop of Horrors at the Career Academy UK’s Belfast Graduation at Stormont as part of a range of activities designed to celebrate the anticipated opening of SERC’s new Performing Arts, Music, Computing and Engineering facility, The SPACE.

Construction of The SPACE is due for completion this summer and the build-ing, in addition to being used by SERC’s students, will also be open to the general public, capable of being used by drama groups and touring productions. During the ceremony, Career Academy students from SERC also received their

graduation certificates from Minister Farry.

The Minister said: “I commend the ongoing work of the further education colleges and Career Academies UK in providing these opportunities for students to help bridge the gap between education and work. These work experience opportunities improve students’ employability skills and therefore improve their employment prospects.”
