Going Wild in Woodland Classroom

24th June 2015

SOUTH Eastern Regional College (SERC) students have transformed a neglected woodland on the college grounds into an outdoor classroom as part of their coursework.

Supported by wild flower planting project Grow Wild and funding from the Big Lottery Fund, the group of Animal Management students, with the help from the School of Construction, overhauled the disused area as part of a reinvigoration of three acres of its site – with wild flowers and a new pond to attract insects, birds and small woodland animals.

The woodland project entitled Eufloria – saw students working with local residents to develop the relaxing, inspiring and educational public space.

SERC lecturer Gwyneth Wilkinson said: “It’s truly a youn-person led project. Students chose the name Eufloria, and they designed and nurtured the space as part of their coursework. Grow Wild is a brilliant project and we are delighted that our wild flower ideas have received support from Kew and the Big Lottery Fund.”
