Employment Briefs – Chris off to Brazil

7th July 2015

A student from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) has been selected to compete in the upcoming WorldSkills competition in Brazil.

Chris Bailie, a final year Refrigeration and Air Conditioning apprentice, is one of seven young people from Northern Ireland who have fought off stiff competition to be selected to represent Squad UK for the event in Sao Paulo this August.

Held every two years, WorldSkills sees around 1,000 young people aged 18-25 from around the world come together to compete for medals in more than 45 different skills such as aircraft maintenance, IT network administration, welding, web design and mechanical engineering.

“The whole experience has been great, I’ve learned so much and want to thank my tutors and my employers BL Refrigeration who have had to do a lot of work in getting me ready for the competition,” said Chris.

“It is an honour to be a member of Squad UK and to represent the UK and SERC. I chose an apprenticeship as I’m much more of a hands-on practical kind of person.”
