Action Cancer Recognised for Excellence

Action Cancer, Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity has been nationally recognised for its people excellence by the Irish Institute of Training & Development (IITD) and by Investors in People (IiP).

IITD National Training Awards 2015

At the recent IITD National Training Awards 2015, Action Cancer won the top award for the “Best Learning Organisation in the Not for Profit Sector” in Ireland.

Commenting on what made Action Cancer stand out as winners, IITD CEO Sinead Heneghan stated: “Action Cancer received the award for their pioneering and inclusive development of teams in order to address the mental health and well-being for people affected by cancer.”

Receiving the award on behalf of Action Cancer, Geraldine Kerr Head of Professional Services, said; “We are naturally delighted that our highly acclaimed life coaching programme, Positive Living has been recognised as an exemplar support programme for people affected by cancer and that the learning and development ethos of Action Cancer has received all Ireland recognition.”

Investors in People – Health and Wellbeing Award

Having already achieved Investors in People Gold Champion recognition, one of only six organisations in Northern Ireland with the accolade, Action Cancer has now been accredited with the Investors in People Health and Wellbeing Award.

Receiving the Award on behalf of the charity Arlene McGeown, Head of Finance and Administration commented; “Having already been awarded the 2014 Family Friendly Employer of the year award for the charitable sector, we are very pleased to receive this latest accolade. Our services are people led and we passionately believe that a healthy work-life balance helps to motivate our staff to deliver service and care excellence.”

Commenting on the receipt of both awards, Gareth Kirk Chief Executive said; “Action Cancer has one core Value, People are at the centre of everything we do. Action Cancer exists for one reason only, that is to help save lives and to support people in Northern Ireland affected by cancer. We are immensely pleased to have received these latest awards as they provide recognition that what we do and how we do it makes a real difference to the many thousands of local people who annually use and avail of our services and support programmes.”
