Polishing Shop Trainee

Status: Full-time

Remuneration Package: Salary Dependent on Experience

Working hours: 8.00-4.30 M-TH, 8.00-14.30 FR.

Holidays: 30 days per year

Reporting to the Production Management Team, the post holder will be responsible to learn Lowden specific finishing techniques and perform them to an exacting standard with focus and attention to detail. Training will be provided. This person will also be called upon to assist with the making or preparing of acoustic guitar parts in other parts of production. Having been trained to perform these duties the post holder will progress through a scale of rising output and therefore remuneration. Progression through the salary scale is dependent upon individual performance.


Lowden Guitars continues to expand in response to rising global demand. Our client Lowden Guitars is a world renowned guitar maker which is based in Downpatrick. George Lowden has been building guitars for over 40 years and George still has a very key role role in the business. The team at Lowden Guitars hand builds acoustic guitars in the top tier of the industry which are sold both here and exported around the world. With currently 28 employees, the company continues to expand in response to rising demand and is therefore now seeking to recruit someone for the Polishing Shop.

This is an important position applying the lacquer and finishing to high value acoustic guitars entering the final stage of assembly. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of the team which prepares the entire guitar to receive the final preparation for completion and dispatch to waiting customers worldwide. This person will learn Lowden specific polishing techniques which include learning how to:

  • Prepare fine woods with sanding techniques
  • Spray guitars
  • Rub down lacquer between coats
  • Other acoustic guitar part making duties as required

The successful applicant will be a hard working and dedicated team player with a commitment to excellence, an eye for detail, and flexibility to adapt to the needs of an expanding company. This person will have polishing and/or fine woodworking experience.
