The Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS) is the advocate for the Catholic Maintained schools sector in Northern Ireland. CCMS plays an important role in the management of Catholic Maintained schools and provides a range of vital support, advice and challenge functions to schools in the sector. It strives to ensure that children and young people have access to a contemporary curriculum in an education estate of the highest quality. CCMS also has a wider role within the Northern Ireland education system and contributes with education partners to policy on a wide range of issues.
The Council is now seeking to appoint a new leader for the Catholic Maintained education sector. This appointment comes at a time of significant change in Northern Ireland and at a time when education can play a key role in shaping our society. The appointee will provide sectoral leadership developing the sector’s vision and strategy and advocating on its behalf. The appointee will also play an important and high profile role across the wider NI education system.
The role requires an individual with a track record of successful leadership and management along with strong strategic thinking capability, the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and to drive improvement and innovation in service delivery. A sound understanding of current developments in the education system and wider public sector in Northern Ireland and of their potential impact on Catholic Maintained Schools and an understanding of and a commitment to the principles of Catholic education are also essential.
