About Southern Regional College
Southern Regional College is the largest Further and Higher Education College outside of Belfast in Northern Ireland. With a total of six campuses across the counties of Armagh and Down and covering four district councils, the College offers first class education and an exciting learning environment for further and higher education.
At further education level, the College offers courses from BTEC Level 1 Diplomas, through NVQ's, National Diplomas and A levels. Many of these are aimed at our full time market although many of these courses are available on a part time basis also. We also offer Apprenticeship Training programmes at the College, where students can learn valuable trades to take into the workplace.
At Southern Regional College we pride ourselves on being able to offer students a diverse range of Higher Education learning experiences. Our portfolio of higher level professional and technical courses is broad ranging and we ensure that all our programmes, be they degrees, diplomas, certificates or professional qualifications, are of a quality surpassing that offered at university.
Within the ten Schools of the College we are confident that we can offer students qualifications which offer clear progression pathways and which are relevant for the worlds of work. We currently cater for approximately 35,000 students each year and have in excess of 1,100 members of staff.

College Gains Top Awards at the City & Guilds Medals for Excellence
Southern Regional College celebrated a triple success as two of its students’ and a member of staff scooped coveted awards under the City & Guilds Medals for Excellence programme. Both the lecturer and students’ were presented with their awards at a prestigious ceremony in Belfast by Sir Reg Empey, Minister for Employment and Learning. The Medals for Excellence programme recognises and rewards exceptional people whose work makes them stand out. Bernadette McKnight, a student from Newry Campus, received the Gold Medal Award from John Shannon, City & Guilds
Lyndsey is Most Promising 1st year Apprentice
Lyndsey Ruddy from Lurgan was presented with The Most Promising 1st Year Apprentice Award at the Apprentice of the Year Awards Ceremony 2010. Lyndsey works for Pineview Day Nursery, Lurgan, and trains as an Apprentice in Childcare at the SRC Banbridge Campus. Lyndsey is truly inspirational in her enthusiasm and motivation to her studies and her work. This has been recognised by her employer and Lyndsey has been promoted to Deputy Manager of Pineview Day Nursery.
SRC Gain Top VQ Award – Again!

Southern Regional College student Ian McIlveen has emerged as the overall winner at the VQ Learner of the Year Awards for Northern Ireland. Ian studied an ILM Management course at SRC through a business partnership with his employer, Nacco. The event took place in the Culloden Hotel, Holywood on VQ Day. VQ Day is a UK-wide celebration of the achievement of the millions of people who gain a Vocational Qualification every year, and highlights the many paths to success taken by learners of all ages. The VQ Learner of the Year Awards 2010 are designed to celebrate vocational learners and showcase the best in vocational achievement. The awards aim to demonstrate the talent, skill, commitment and effort required to gain a vocational qualification. A further four students from Southern Regional College were among those shortlisted from the six colleges in Northern Ireland and the runners up included: Bernadette McKnight Hairdressing, Michelle Graham Business Administration, Philomena McCormick Health & Social Care, Brendan Baxter Hospitality & Tourism

Southern Regional College were among a number of high-profile organisations which scooped gongs at the Irish News Workplace & Employment Awards. A capacity crowd
packed into the Ramada Hotel for the gala black-tie dinner, at which the Minister for Employment & Learning Sir Reg Empey congratulated all the winners for their success in placing a firm emphasis on individuals and their positive contribution to the Northern Ireland workplace.
Southern Regional College were delighted to pick up the prestigious award for Workplace Excellence in the Education Sector. The judging panel described the College as “the winning organisation in this category has gained a glowing reputation for outstanding quality in teaching, learning and business support not just in Northern Ireland, but nationally and internationally. Embracing a number of campuses spread
over a wide geographical area, it has transformed lives through meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences.”
